According to Garcetti, LA County won’t reach full vaccination until the summer of 2022

LOS ANGELES (KABC) – According to Mayor Eric Garcetti, vaccinations for the entire population of Los Angeles County will not be completed at the current rate until June 2022.

The mayor says the bleak outlook boils down to supply and demand.

“If you take the calculation of what the county gets every week – about 160,000 – and you look at the number of health workers and seniors, we won’t get through it until June (2021),” he said.

However, Garcetti emphasizes that the pace will not stay the way it is, especially if other COVID-19 vaccines from AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson, which require only one dose, are approved for use.

Up to 12,000 doses per day can be administered at the Dodger Stadium vaccination site. But a week after the stadium’s parking lot transitioned from a testing site to a vaccination super site, only 2,000 doses are available daily.

Despite supply restrictions, more than 46,000 people were vaccinated this week at the five city-run vaccination sites, a 90% increase from last week. More than 80,000 people have been vaccinated at the city’s vaccination sites.

Wait times of five hours were reported at Dodger Stadium as eligible Angelenos flocked to the country’s largest vaccine site.

Officials say extensive planning has been made to ensure the site runs smoothly and effectively, but distribution issues plague the site.

Several people said they waited until five on Wednesday to get vaccinated. AIR7 HD was above the site because a handful of cars got stuck in line at 11pm – three hours after the site officially closed.

Thursday afternoon, however, waiting times had improved significantly.

Meanwhile, the City of Los Angeles will finish offering COVID-19 vaccines to all residents of skilled nursing facilities by the end of Friday.

The mayor said that at the beginning of the pandemic, 45% of deaths from the coronavirus were among vulnerable residents of those facilities.

“Too many people are still dying, and with more contagious COVID-19 variants taking root that could contribute to why we had such a rise in December, there is no more pressing task than this site and other sites like it. vaccinated residents, ”Garcetti said.
