President Luis Abinader said yesterday that schools were “born” to be open to students, teachers and communities, despite the “great crisis” in the education sector caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The President stressed that the population must ensure that the return to the classroom contributes to the preservation of the educational process and the maintenance of the health of students, teachers, directors and support staff of the schools, providing safe classrooms and efficient sanitation protocols to have.
The president spoke at the head of the official act of gradual return to face-to-face education after a year of the pandemic caused by Covid-19. The activity was carried out at the Juana Taveras Liriano primary school, in the municipality of Guerra.
Also virtually, Vice President Raquel Peña and First Lady Raquel Arbaje simultaneously led the return to the classrooms in Santiago and Bonao respectively.
Degrees return
In the first stage, only the children of the initial level, the first cycle of primary school, the sixth year of secondary school in the technical-professional and art modalities will visit the educational institutions, as well as the students of the subsystem education for youth and adults . They must have the written consent of the parents.
In 48 municipalities, 1,958 schools are starting with an enrollment of 419,980 students and 21,524 teaching staff. While the administrative staff amounts to 16,082.
The students will spend two to four hours in school, depending on the educational center, and will supplement their schedule with distance learning, informed Education Minister Roberto Fulcar. In addition, the school uniform is not compulsory, so if the student does not have it, he / she can attend with regular clothes.
