The spiritual leader of the Mita Congregation, Inc., Teófilo Vargas Seín (Aarón), has passed away tonight at the age of 99 after suffering from various health problems, the congregation’s vice president, Rosinín Rodríguez Pérez, confirmed.
Rodríguez Pérez said that “our beloved Aaron passed away on January 18, 2021 at the age of 99 as a result of an extensive history of cardiovascular disease. Until the last moment of his life, he was accompanied by his loved ones and his team of doctors, who gave him all the love and the utmost care and attention ”.
“Today our Church celebrates Aaron’s birth to eternal life, rest in peace our beloved father and spiritual leader, Aaron,” added Rodríguez Pérez.
For years, the religious leader faced a lengthy legal battle because he refused to recognize his son Samuel Beníquez until he underwent a paternity test.
On the other hand, Aarón stood out as the spiritual leader of the Mita Congregation, Inc., after the death of Juanita García Peraza, founder of the congregation, whose basis is Christianity. From 1940 he accompanied Mita’s person until his death in 1970. And when he became his successor, he continued his legacy with the development and expansion of the Congregation in and outside Puerto Rico.
Under his leadership, the Church expanded internationally in countries such as the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador, Canada, Spain, Italy, Chile, Peru, and the United States. In addition, he created several social projects for the benefit of Puerto Rican society, such as the Colegio Congregación Mita, the Égida and Institution El Paraíso, the Office of Orientation and Social Work of the Congregation Mita, and Los Hermanos Memorial Park.
