A golf cart accident in North Fort Myers kills one, injures the other

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. One person was killed and another injured in a crash on US-41 in North Fort Myers.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened Monday afternoon near the intersection of N Cleveland Avenue and Leesure Lane.

An 86-year-old woman who was driving a golf cart died after the crash, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Troopers said they drove east on Leesure Lane at the intersection of US-41 at around 3:46 PM, while a 20-year-old woman was driving south on US-41.

The 86-year-old started crossing the intersection to the second car when the 20-year-old hit the golf cart, FHP said.

The 86-year-old was pronounced dead on the spot, while the driver of the car was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

A dog was also injured in the crash, North Fort Myers Fire officials said.

US-41 southbound lanes were blocked in the area and traffic was diverted while officials investigated.
