Lorient, France.
A man who worked as a gardener for the football club Lorient died this Sunday after that team’s game against Rennes, on the 16th day of the French Ligue 1, as a result of the fall of a structure designed to heat and care for the grass .
“A member of the club’s supplier team responsible for lawn maintenance died after an accidental fall from a phototherapy facility,” Lorient City Hall said in a statement.
The drama unfolded a few minutes after Lorient’s 3-0 defeat to Rennes, when the last team’s substitutions were still in place. It was they who warned the accident.
Television footage in the hallways of the stadium showed players and members of the medical corps of both teams running onto the field, where rescue services soon arrived.
Staff at the Stade du Moustoir also quietly attended the first medical care maneuvers with the gardener named Yohann.
The gardener received more than 15 minutes of chest compressions and was transferred in critical condition to an emergency department, where his life could not be saved.
According to various media, it is a 38-year-old man with three children.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident.
