A free trial of up to 40 characters could point to the Season 5 release date for Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition

Currently it seems only for PlayStation users

It’s been over six months at this point, but we’re all just one day away from the future of Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition.

To celebrate the winter update and the end of the competitive season, Capcom has released a new free trial of Champion Edition that includes all 40 playable characters. What might be more interesting to most than playing Gill or Seth is the timing of the trial and specifically when it ends.

As of now, the current demo is only available to PlayStation 4 (or PlayStation 5) users, so PC players can unfortunately beat it out according to 4Gamer.

While we only know the Japanese end time now, it looks like it will be available after 11 p.m. PT on Feb. 24, which could potentially indicate when we could also see the final season launch.

It would make sense that Capcom wouldn’t want to spend extra resources updating a free version of SF5 that would be removed in a few days, so Season 5’s release might not come until February 25th if indeed it does.

On the other hand, the publisher could also be extra open and allow free players to enjoy the update for a few days to let them buy the full version afterwards.

In previous years, Capcom generally unleashed the new season right after the Capcom Cup would end in December, though its cancellation and the Winter Update pretty much throw that entire playbook out the window tomorrow.

The season finale of the Capcom Pro Tour 2020 will take place from February 20-21 with two days of online competitions scheduled, and since the Capcom Cup would take place at the same time, chances are we can still see it. that Sunday.

Street Fighter 5’s winter update will be the place to finally see everything Dan has to offer as S5’s first DLC character, although Rose has also been confirmed to be making an appearance.

This will also serve as one of the first times the developers of SF5 will sit down to discuss the balance changes coming to SF5, as well as the new combat mechanics that will come to the game.

Hopefully Capcom will give a release date on stream tomorrow, but they can also just tell us to tune in to the CPT Finals to see when we can play new SF5 content after more than a year without substantial updates.
