The start of the free agency window will continue for another two weeks – the “legal tampering” period will come on Monday, March 15, two days earlier than the previous free agency opening and the calendar year of the competition on the 17th. But that apparently hasn’t stopped at least one team from reaching out and talking to freelancer quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has been pondering his future in the league after a two-year spell in Miami during which he provided a lot of magic for Dolphins on the go.
There was some heartbreak as well, but overall the Fitzpatrick tenure in Miami should be considered an exciting success as he helped revive the Dolphins’ successes and transition from a suppressed franchise to a franchise full of hope .
Maybe his next move will be easy enough to predict, as he will have the chance to give more of the same to someone else. And a team reportedly reaching out, the Denver Broncos, needs just that. Woody Paige of the Denver Gazette has reported that the Broncos team has “talked” to the veteran quarterback.
How this is possible without breaking the competition’s policy on the “legal mess” window versus extracurricular activities is unclear – but Denver would certainly be a great destination for Fitzpatrick’s experienced hand to make an impact. The Broncos are talented, but young quarterback Drew Lock appears to be a potential stumbling block to the team’s long-term outlook. And while Fitzpatrick wouldn’t solve the team’s long-term problem, he would give a potential in-game boost to a Broncos team in need of a “spark.”
Fitzpatrick has proven time and again that “sparks” are his specialty. So if the competition year starts in March, find out if Fitzpatrick is on the way to somewhere that needs some extra juice. Denver might be the ticket – and thanks to Paige’s subtle hint, that might be exactly where we see him land.
