Apple hasn’t changed the annoying location of the charging port on the bottom of the Magic Mouse with the unveiling of the new M1 iMac

As much as customers love that Apple has changed the design of the M1 iMac while using the custom silicon, they will just as much dislike the company taking the same approach when it comes to its accessories. No, we’re not talking about the new Magic Keyboard that now supports Touch ID, we’re talking about the Magic Mouse. If you thought Apple had finally changed that awful charging port location, well, you’d be completely wrong.

The only change here is that the Magic Mouse will arrive in the same colors as the redesigned iMac

In a conversation with The Verge, Apple explained the location of the Magic Mouse or Magic Mouse 2 charging port, if we use actual model names. That means that when customers unpack their shiny next M1 iMac, they will find that the mouse needs to be charged in the same way as on their previous generation iMacs. Apple hasn’t changed the location of the charging port for the past five years, and it looks like the company will keep the same design for whatever reason.

If it matters to you, the Magic Mouse 2 arrives in the same finish as the M1 iMac. If you remember, Apple now offers seven different finishes for its latest ‘All in One’. Apple hasn’t made it clear why it has decided to keep the location of the charging port, but that certainly won’t stop customers from buying third-party wireless mice. With those purchases, you can at least charge them from the front and use them at the same time.

Some of the latest wireless mice also support USB-C charging, so you don’t have to worry about carrying a separate cable. We don’t know when Apple will get started with the latest trends, at least with regard to its Magic Mouse 2. Hopefully when a new iMac will hit the market. Until then, you use what you get or buy another mouse.
