Argelia Domínguez de León, mother of renowned Cuban troubadour Silvio Rodríguez Domínguez, died Wednesday, according to family members on social networks, who did not specify the cause of death.

“Although I knew your departure was approaching, you are never prepared to lose a mother, I could not say goodbye, but I keep your love and the memories of all that we have lived together. You weren’t just my mother, Silvio’s, Mary’s, you were the mother of your grandchildren, of all our friends, acquaintances, you always took over every heart that came into your life, ‘Silvio’s sister, Anabell López, said on Facebook.

‘I want to remind you that you smiled and sang our song’ Love me a lot ‘. Rest in peace, dear mother, you are light! Thank you, thank you, thank you! He added.

The troubadour had dedicated two of his records to his parents. The first, “Rodríguez”, in honor of his father, Dagoberto Rodríguez, and the second, “Domínguez”, in Algeria. The latter has a photo of his mother at the age of 18 on the cover.

She also sings a song with her son for the same phonogram. It’s about the topic The wind is you. “I’ve said it on another occasion, my mom is the music, although I think mothers can be in a way like each other’s music,” the singer-songwriter said in an interview for the Zurrón del apprentice site.

“We felt very good during the recording. She already knew the song so well from singing for her and while she’s not very used to this hustle and bustle, we did very few takes. By the way, I left a comment about her, a riddle of guajiros, at the beginning of the recording, when I explained to her the distance to be placed from the microphone, ‘she said of the song they were playing.

Argelia Domínguez León lived with Dagoberto Rodríguez in the La Loma neighborhood of San Antonio de los Baños, today’s Artemisa province, 16 miles south of Havana, where Silvio was born.

In addition to domestic work, Domínguez shared a singing duo with her sister Orquídea Domínguez during her adolescence, with whom she participated in radio stations and cultural events. He sang for his son the song “The Hummingbird”, from the popular tradition.

At this point, the troubadour has not spoken publicly about the sensitive loss.
