Disneyland Resort has yet to reopen, but selected guests were treated to a magical experience at the “A Touch of Disney” event at Disney California Adventure. Imagineering conducted a play test of a possible new experience: a meet-and-greet with a “life-size” little Tinker Bell.
Jenn Tanaka posted her family’s experiences on Instagram. Her family was invited to participate after a chance meeting with a cast member. Her kids were “starstruck” and loved the experience.
Play tests are part of the development process used by Imagineers. After regular testing, the Imagineers can gauge the interest of guests and get feedback from their intended audience. We’ve seen character technology play tests before with the talking Mickey Mouse meet-and-greet, which was a permanent offer for a while at the time.
Tinker Bell first appeared in her lantern. She then flew around the room.
She ended up in a device of her own invention that could amplify her voice so that guests could hear her. She was fully interactive and addressed the children by name.
Many projections were used, including ‘writing’ in a book and butterflies flying around the room.
