Why Miranda Lambert performed with Chris Stapleton instead of wife Morgane at the 2021 ACM Awards

Miranda Lambert lent a good old hand – or voice – to Chris Stapleton on Sunday during his performance at the 2021 Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards.

The Stapletons were ready to perform their husband-and-wife duet, ‘Maggie’s Song,’ but minutes before the awards were due to start, Morgane, 38, had to flee to fulfill an earlier commitment, according to People magazine

“Because of her earlier doula commitment, Morgane Stapleton cannot get to the Bluebird as planned at Chris Stapleton’s,” the ACMs said in a statement. “Miranda Lambert will take the Bluebird stage with Chris tonight for ‘Maggie’s Song’.”

In addition to performing with Stapleton, Lambert, 37, also started the show with Elle King for their recently released duet “Drunk (And I Don’t Want to Go Home).” She will also be performing again with Jack Ingram and Jon Randall.

Stapleton, 43, is the male leader for Sunday night nominations, including Entertainer of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, and Album of the Year. In addition, his song “Starting Over” was also suitable for song of the year, which went to Maren Morris’ hit “The Bones”.
