Clint Frazier was in the batter’s box when some Yankees fans couldn’t take it anymore. They threw half a dozen balls onto the field and forced the game to stop for 2 minutes and 15 seconds in the seventh inning.
And manager Aaron Boone exploded in a rare encounter with his players after the game.
New York is bad, and the Rays have taken action.
Brandon Lowe hit a two-run double in the first inning off starter Nick Nelson and Tampa Bay defeated the Yankees 8-2 on Friday-evening.
“We know that we can face setbacks at some point in the season. Now he’s knocked on our door and we need to respond, ”Boone said.
The Rays, reigning champions of the American League East Division, continued to dominate the Yankees.
Tampa Bay came to New York after eight losses in 11 games and had failed to hold the lead in 25 innings. But the young and athletic Rays took an 8-0 lead in the seventh inning, beating the non-working Yankees for the 16th time in their last 21 games.
That streak includes last year’s division series.
New York dropped to 5-8 and is having problems with pitching, hitting and fielding. He walked Tampa seven times, collected only three basehits, struckout 14 and committed three errors that led to three dirty runs.
Then came the rain of balls thrown by some of the 10,202 annoyed spectators on a windy night.
And Frazier said the manager raised his voice when he met them.
“He’s so calm that if he speaks to us the way he did, everyone should listen because he’s not the type of person who usually gets that upset,” he said. So I think your ears are kind of buzzing when someone so calm tells you everything they expect from you and what you don’t do. He was clearly very angry and rightly so ”.
Michael Wacha (1-1) improved his ERA from 7.00 to 4.20 and gave up one hit in six scoreless innings, with nine strikeouts and one walk.
Nelson (0-2) took the loss.
For the Rays, Cubans were Randy Arozarena 4-1 with a run scored and an RBI, Yandy Díaz 5-2. The Dominicans Manuel Margot 4-1 with a goal, Willy Adames 5-1 with a goal.
