
Tamil film comedian and Padma Shri recipient Vivek passed away here in a private hospital on Saturday. He was 59.
He was admitted to SIMS hospital Friday morning after exhibiting “acute coronary syndrome with cardiogenic shock”.
Vivek who was in a critical condition was placed on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) support, the hospital said.
Vivek was taken by his relatives in an unconscious state to the emergency room of the hospital around 11 a.m. on Friday, the hospital said.
The hospital said he had been resuscitated by emergency room specialists and later underwent a coronary angiogram followed by an angioplasty.
According to the doctors, Vivek had complained of chest pain to his relatives.
The Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Tamilisai Soundararajan condemned his death, saying that Vivek had spread good social messages through his comedic dialogues and earned the nickname ‘Chinna Kalaivannara’ or Little Kalaivannar (Late Tamil film comedian NS Krishnanar) had. also an environmentalist in planting lakhs from saplings.
Born Vivekanandan in Kovilpattin, Tamil Nadu, Vivek entered the Tamil film field in 1987 in the movie “Manathil Urudhi Vendum” directed by the late K. Balachander.
Soon he was in high demand and he performed with top heroes like Rajinikanth, Vijay, Ajith, Surya and others. He has starred in more than 200 movies.
Vivek was awarded the Padma Shri and Kalaivannar Prize from the Government of Tamil Nadu in 2009.
