MINNEAPOLIS (Neth.) – Nathan Eovaldi threw five innings with an ERA and the Boston Red Sox extended their winning streak to eight, beating the Minnesota Twins 3-2 to start a doubleheader on Wednesday.
Christian Arroyo, Alex Verdugo and Xander Bogaerts each had two hits for Boston, with their longest winning streak since 2018. The Red Sox are the first team since the 1991 Seattle Mariners to lose at least three games since the season. according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
Eovaldi (2-1) gave up two runs and five hits. Matt Barnes closed down to claim his second savior after opening by granting a walk.
Kenta Maeda (1-1) accounted for the loss, punished by the Minnesota defense in the second inning, including a bad shot from him that resulted in a run. He threw 4 1/3 innings and gave up three runs.
For the Red Sox, the Mexican Verdugo 4-2. The Dominicans Rafael Devers 4-1; and Franchy Cordero at 2-1, scoring one. Venezuelan Marwin González 3-1, one scored.
For the Twins, the Dominicans Nelson Cruz 2-1; and Jorge Polanco 3-1, two RBI’s. Venezuelans Luis Arráez 4-0 and Williams Astudillo 3-0.
