Abinader describes it as foolish to talk about reelection and asked the party not to discuss the matter for 2 years

President Luis Abinader said it was irresponsible that the government was discussing the issue of re-election in the government for barely eight months.

The statement was made by the Presidency’s Director of Information and Press, Daniel García Archivald on his twitter account.

In the message, Archivald assures that the president has asked the modern revolutionary party not to discuss the issue of re-election during the first two years of government.

When the president offered an interview in the government on Wednesday morning, he said that “it is irresponsible for this country to talk about re-election as we arrived in government just eight months ago, with a crisis and a pandemic.”

The head of state confirmed that in the previous meeting with members of the Political Commission of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), held on Sunday in the capital, “that was not even mentioned.”

Likewise, he clarified that he will send a letter to the President of the PRM, José Ignacio Paliza, so that this issue is not raised in any of the party’s meetings. “It will be discussed in due course,” added the president.

“The only thing that needs to be discussed in the PRM government is to deliver on the pledge we have made and lead this country to get it out of the pandemic, relaunch it and create jobs along with the health of the country. Dominicans and the reforms this country needs, ”the president reiterated.

In the same sense, the president clarified that the committee set up by the PRM to amend the statutes of that political organization was established more than two and a half years ago; and that it is a matter of adapting the regulations to these times.

On Monday, the administrative minister of the presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, said President Luis Abinader is not considering re-election, after one of the members of the Political Commission of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) said that a reform of the statutes of the political entity to allow a new presidential term.

“The president is focused on governing, on rescuing this country from the crisis and on creating jobs; there is no other project or idea that will take us there,” Paliza told reporters about the National Palace.
