HOUSTON (Neth.) – Wilson Ramos hit two homers and fellow Venezuelan Renato Nunez homered for the second game in a row when the Detroit Tigers defeated the Houston Astros 8-2 on Tuesday-evening.
Also, rookie Akil Baddoo hit a homerun for the second game in a row by the Tigers. He is off to a torrid start to his Major League-career, hitting four homeruns in eight games.
Nomar Mazara added a homerun to the case of the Tigers, with the five homers representing their highest total of the season.
Detroit won its second game in a row, after four consecutive losses.
The Tigers spoiled Jake Odorizzi’s Astros debut (0-1), who started the season late after being signed on March 8. Detroit defeated him with seven hits and five runs, including three home runs in 3 1/3 innings.
Houston suffered its fourth loss in a row, after starting the season 6-1.
The win went to starter Matthew Boyd (2-1), who gave up six hits and one run in 6 2/3 innings.
For the Tigers, Puerto Rican Willi Castro 5-0. The Dominicans Jeimer Candelario 4-2 with two runs scored, Mazara 4-2 with one run scored and produced two. Venezuelans Ramos 5-2 with two runs scored and three RBI’s, Núñez 3-1 with one run and two RBI’s, Víctor Reyes 3-1.
For the Astros, Venezuelan José Altuve 4-1. Puerto Ricans Martín Maldonado 1-0, Carlos Correa 4-0. The Cubans Aledmys Díaz 1-0, Yordan Álvarez 4-2 with a goal, Yuli Gurriel 4-2 with a goal.
