President Luis Abinader said yesterday that his government reaffirms its political will to close the digital divide and ensure that the benefits of technology reach people and leave no one behind.
Abinader, who led the delivery of more than half a million technology devices (tablets), along with Education Minister Roberto Fulcar, said they will be awarded to students at the original level of public schools, working for a better future for all the children of the country.
The president explained that 537,432 tablets were received, 67% of the total amount committed, from an investment of RD $ 5,559,522,338.72, in addition to those already received, to complete 800,000 tablets at a cost of approximately RD $ 8,000 million.
Mixed classes
The presentation and start of the delivery of the devices took place in the warehouses of the Ministry of Education in Haina, from where they will be shipped, first to the 48 municipalities that started the mixed classes, and then to the whole country.
The tablets were purchased through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) global procurement mechanism, which saved the state $ 18 million, the president said.
He thanked the UNDP for his work in the figure of his representative, Inka Mattila, and the Ministry of Education. “This commitment to social justice and inclusion is particularly evident in the field of education, first because education is a formidable way of promoting the country’s development, and secondly because it focuses on our capital. Most precious: our children, young people and adolescents, ”he emphasized
