On Tuesday, country star Morgan Wallen resurfaced on Instagram after two months to let his fans know he won’t be performing this summer and will instead take the time to keep working on himself.
“I just wanted to let you know that …[I] the feeling that I really worked on myself. I am proud of the work I have done and in many ways grateful that I had the time to do it. I will always strive to improve, ”wrote Wallen. “This time it has not only revealed to me the ways I want to improve, but it has also reminded me that I am still very proud of who I am and of the man I am becoming.”
In his four-page note, which has already been liked more than 570,000 times, Wallen added that while his time out of the spotlight was “very valuable” to him “in many ways”, he feels he needs more of it. has. “Therefore [I] will not be running tour dates this summer, ”he explained. “It means I won’t be playing festivals or playing Luke Bryan’s tour dates. The latest comments hinted at a tour that Red Light District would be a part of before he was at the center of two controversies.
The main one came on Feb. 2, when TMZ released a video in which the singer-songwriter uses the N word, talking to friends. In the aftermath, Wallen’s last attempt, Dangerous: The Double Album, continued to impress, staying atop the Billboard 200 for 10 consecutive weeks. But his use of the word was not without consequences. After the incident, Wallen’s music was removed from SiriusXM Satellite Radio and iHeartRadio, and many other stations, along with Apple Music and Pandora. Seeing his performances being removed from the platforms of CMT and the Country Music Association, Wallen also had his recording contract with the Big Loud label indefinitely suspended, with The double album ineligible for competition at the 56th annual Academy of Country Music Awards.
While Red Light District offered a video apology on February 10, he was also at the center of controversy last October. A week prior to a scheduled appearance on Saturday Night Live, TikTok videos emerged of the singer-songwriter partying in an Alabama bar, in violation of social distance guidelines set by both the state of Alabama and SNL producers. In this case, Wallen just saw his SNL debut postponed, appearing on the late-night sketch show as a musical guest on December 5.
“2020… man, what a difficult year for so many. For me, my difficult year continued into 2021, ”Wallen continued in his Instagram post. “I’ve made some mistakes, I’m figuring them out and I’ve apologized because I was really sorry and made up for it.”
Currently, the artist is in Nashville, “to get back in the mood”, and while it was not mentioned when Wallen will return to the stage, he assured his fans that “you’ll see me sooner than later”.
