Shonda Rhimes responds to Regé-Jean Page Bridgerton’s exit

“I think people have a hard time letting go.”

Bridgerton fans still mourn that Regé-Jean Page won’t be returning for the show’s second season – but producer Shonda Rhimes doesn’t mind.

The TV director recently spoke about Regé-Jean’s departure and explained that this was the plan at the start.

“We made a one-season deal with him at the start of season one. That was the plan: come and do one season as duke. Anything else that was extra that wasn’t really the plan when we started, wasn’t it. plan. plan when we’re done, “Shonda said to Vanity Fair.

While Shonda confirmed that Regé-Jean had been invited to appear in season two cameos, she shut down rumors circulating about his decision not to return.

“There are a lot of fantastically interesting conversations going on, mainly because I think people have a hard time letting go,” said Shonda.

Shonda added that she was “really shocked” at the response from fans, as it is something that usually only happens when a character is killed.

‘We didn’t kill him, he’s still alive! [Regé-Jean] is a powerful, amazing actor and that meant we did our job – every season our job is to find the right people and put together this incredible, world-changing romance, ”Shonda explained.

She added that she also wasn’t expecting “such a big explosion” as the Bridgerton series has a different romance in each book.

“What would be the ever-after of this combo? I mean, really, what would Regé-Jean do, you know what I mean? We gave them their happily ever after! And now we’ve got this next set going. And so yeah, I was like, ‘Whoa!’ Shonda said of the answer.

So while fans will not see more of Regé-Jean in Bridgerton, they can expect a lot more drama from Lady Whistledown!
