San Diego County COVID-19 Update – 12/4/2021 | News

Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data through April 11.

Progress vaccination:

  • Nearly 2.23 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been delivered in the region and about 2.1 million have been recorded as being administered. This number includes county residents as well as those who work in San Diego County.
  • Of those vaccinated so far, nearly 720,000 residents of the county, or 26.8% of San Diegans ages 16 and older, have been fully immunized.
  • In all, nearly 1.2 million County residents have received at least one injection of the vaccine with two doses. That’s 44% of those who qualify.
  • Those who receive the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine are added to the total of fully vaccinated San Diegans.
  • The difference between the doses administered and the doses used in a vaccination roughly represents what is expected to be administered over the next seven days and the doses still to be entered into the registration system.

Status statistics:

  • San Diego County’s state-calculated, adjusted number of cases is currently 5.8 cases per 100,000 residents (as of April 6), and the region is in Orange Tier or Tier 3.
  • Currently, the test positivity rate is 2.3%, placing the County in Tier 3 or the Orange Tier.
  • The County Health Value, which looks at the test positivity for areas with the lowest healthy conditions, is 2.6% and is also in the Orange Tier or Tier 3.
  • All three statistics place the county in the Orange Tier or Tier 3 for activities.
  • The California Department of Public Health reviews counties on a weekly basis. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday, April 13.

Outbreaks in the community:

  • A new outbreak in the community was confirmed in a restaurant setting on April 11.
  • A new outbreak in the community was confirmed in a daycare / preschool / daycare center on April 10.
  • A new outbreak in the community was confirmed in a government setting on April 9.
  • In the past seven days (April 5 through April 11), 17 outbreaks were confirmed in the community.
  • The number of outbreaks in the community remains above the trigger of seven or more in seven days.
  • A community outbreak is defined as three or more COVID-19 cases in an environment and in people from different households in the past 14 days.

To test:

  • 7,367 tests were reported to the County on April 11, and the rate of new positive cases was 2%.
  • The moving average percentage of positive cases over 14 days is 2%. Target is less than 8.0%.
  • The 7-day, daily mean of tests is 12,344.

Case studies, hospital admissions and IC admissions:

  • 144 COVID-19 cases were reported to the County on April 11. The total of the region is now 273,430.
  • Hospitalization was required in 14,995 or 5.5% of all cases.
  • 1,664 or 0.6% of all cases and 11.1% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

Deaths:

  • No new COVID-19 deaths were reported on April 11. The total of the region is 3,621. Two previously reported deaths were determined to be not San Diego County residents and were removed from the list.
  • Nine new COVID-19 deaths were reported on April 10.
  • Between January 28 and April 9, five men and four women died.
  • Of those who died, four were 80 years of age or older, two were in their 70s, one in their 60s, and two in their 50s.
  • Eight had underlying medical conditions and one did not.
  • On April 9, 14 new COVID-19 deaths were reported.
  • 12 men and two women died between January 1 and April 8.
  • Of those who died, seven were 80 or older, two were in their 70s, two in their 60s, two in their 50s, and one in their 30s.
  • 12 had underlying medical conditions and two had a medical history in progress.
