(CNN) – The Duke of Sussex paid tribute to his “villain” grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, in a statement through his Archewell Foundation after arriving in the UK from the US on Monday.
My grandfather was a man of service, honor and a lot of humor. He was really himself, with a very sharp sense of humor, and could grab the attention of any room because of his charm, and also because you never knew what he would say next, ”said Prince Harry.
Prince Harry and Meghan’s message about Philip’s death
He will be remembered as the oldest reigning consort, a decorated soldier, a prince and a duke. But to me, like many of you who have lost a loved one or grandparent in this painful year that has passed, he was my grandfather: master of the barbecue, legend of the jokes and villain to the end.
“He has been a rock to Her Majesty the Queen with unparalleled devotion, by her side for 73 years of marriage, and while I could go on, I now know he would say to all of us, beer in hand, ‘Oh, go on! ‘”he added.
So for that matter, Grandpa, thank you for your service, your dedication to Grandma and always being yourself. The nation and the world will miss you very much, but they will always remember you. Meghan, Archie and I (as well as your future great-granddaughter) will always have a special place for you in our hearts. “Per Mare, Per Terram,” the statement said.
