Tourists leave the third wave of Covid behind on holiday in the country

While in South America a new wave of Covid-19 is being fought against the tribe from Brazil, in the Dominican Republic, between January and February of this year, 36,990 visitors from this region arrived at the various airports in the country.

Brazil, where P.1 emerged as the new variant of the Coronavirus and which can be up to twice as transmissible, received 3,820 visitors in the first two months of the year, according to Aerodom statistics.

Brazil had registered 71,832 new cases by April 10, 2021.

Other countries wary

The country of origin where the most passengers were received in the first two months of the year was Colombia with 9,791 foreigners. In this South American country, 14,509 new cases of Coronavirus were registered as of April 10.

Argentina, which reported 19,419 new cases of the virus on April 10, received 6,585 passengers between January and February this year.

Another country where Covid is on the rise is Chile, which registered 8,101 new cases of the virus two days ago. From this country, 5,112 foreign visitors arrived in the Dominican Republic in the first two months of 2021.

In this period 5,949 foreigners arrived from Venezuela; from Peru there were 2,165 and from Ecuador the arrival of 1,446 tourists was registered.

In presenting the new cases registered in these countries and the arrival of passengers from South America, it should be remembered that the Dominican Republic does not require a mandatory PCR test at airports, but that breath tests are performed randomly.

On April 8, Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) director Carissa Etienne said South America is the region of greatest concern for Covid-19 infections as the number of cases is increasing in almost all countries.

Scheduled flights

Despite PAHO’s warnings, Las Américas Airport (AILA) has seven flights scheduled from South America for the week of April 12-25, four from Colombia and three from Venezuela and Panama, a country where some visitors stop. From visitors from South America, 12 flights are planned.

From April 26 to June 6, there are 58 scheduled flights from Colombia and Venezuela and 94 from Panama.

March in general

According to data from the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) in March 2021, 630,941 domestic and foreign passengers were mobilized from various destinations to the Dominican Republic, of which 327,775 on inbound flights.

This passenger flow was carried out in 7,148 commercial flight operations.

The regulatory body indicated that in February 2021 the final figure was 448,633 passengers on a total of 5,827 commercial flights.
