It won’t be against Mike Tyson, but former heavyweight champion and Hall of Famer Evander Holyfield, 54, already has a date to return to the ring.
Holyfield (44-10-2) would come out of his 11-year retirement and face Kevin McBride in a practice fight on June 5.
The fight was first reported by Sports Illustrated.
The fight between Holyfield and McBride would be part of the role that Teófimo López will play, who will defend his lightweight title against George Kambosos.
In recent days, Holyfield and Tyson have been negotiating the possibility of a third fight, after the two they played in the 90s, the latter a boxing classic due to the controversial ending in which Tyson bit and ripped part of Holyfield’s ear.
The third fight fell through after Tyson declined a $ 25 million bid to step into the ring with Holyfield.
Last November, Tyson, a former heavyweight champion, won a practice fight against Roy Jones Jr.
For his part, it is acknowledged that McBride (35-10-1), 47, retired Tyson after knocking him out in 2005. He too stopped boxing in 2011.
