Lasso beats Arauz in Ecuador with 90 percent of the vote

With more than 90 percent of the votes counted in Ecuador, the results of the National Electoral Council (CNE) give the victory to conservative candidate Guillermo Lasso over correista candidate Andrés Arauz.

Lasso, the candidate of the CREO movement and of the conservative and liberal ideology, has obtained 52.74 percent of the vote in this second round of elections, according to the figures available so far, compared to 47.26 percent of the candidate of Unión por la Esperanza (UNES).

Following the release of the CNE’s live survey, Lasso used his Twitter account to celebrate “we achieve this together!”

“Thank you Ecuador for showing your support at the polls. Where necessary we will wait for the official results,” he noted, adding that “we are positive and have great confidence.”

After the polls closed, the polls gave Lasso a victory, in the case of Cedatos with 53.24 percent against Arauz’s 46.76 percent, while Eurek predicted a tighter result, with 50.97 percent of the vote for Lasso and 49 , 03 for Arauz.

On a day marked by the call for a zero vote from the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) after indigenous candidate Yaku Pérez was dropped from the second round by a small margin, the exit polls also give the victory to Lasso , although by a small margin.
