Alec Bohm’s left foot may or may not have hit home plate on Sunday-evening in Truist Park in the top of the ninth inning. Either way, he scored.
Bohm’s controversial run saved the series from the Phillies with a 7-6 win over the Braves. Bohm doubled to right-midfield to start the ninth. Jean Segura’s groundout to second place brought Bohm to third place. Didi Gregorius then flied out to shallow leftfield, just 70 feet from home plate. Phillies third base coach Dusty Wathan sent Bohm. Braves leftfielder Marcell Ozuna pitched to the plate. The ball and Bohm arrived at home plate at about the same time, and home referee Lance Barrett called Bohm safe. But TV reruns seemed to show that Bohm’s foot might have just missed the record.
Replay Review said the piece would remain as stated.
Hector Neris threw a scoreless ninth while the Phillies avoided the series sweep.
