The Caribbean Astronomy Society reported today that a space rock detected this week will pass close to Earth next Monday.
It’s called the asteroid “2021 GW4”, a space rock with a diameter of 5 meters“It is considered a small asteroid and without risk of impact,” the Society said in written statements.
The asteroid would get even closer than the distance that television satellites orbit Earth, the Society said.
The educational entity added that, though the closest approach will take place around 9:00 am on April 12, it is between 10:00 pm and 10:45 pm on Sunday April 11 when observers with telescopes are most likely to photograph itas the asteroid would “brush” the Messier 95 galaxy in the constellation of Leo, from Earth’s perspective.
NASA calculations indicate this Space rock comes within just 12,313 miles of Earth’s surface, which is equivalent to only 5% of the distance between the Earth and the Moon., called the Caribbean Astronomy Society. The asteroid “2021 GW4” is traveling at a speed of 18,706 miles per hour (30,104 km / h).
The Caribbean Astronomy Society stressed that there is no risk of impact. “It’s part of nature. As long as someone of remarkable size with a dangerous trajectory is not detected, there is no reason to be afraid, ”said the organization.
