David Hogg drops pillowcase to return to activism

He must have slept on it.

David Hogg, the survivor of the Parkland shooting, says he is quitting his role in the pillow company he founded to compete with conservative MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell – and going back to activism.

Hogg, 20, announced on Twitter Saturday “Resigned and released all stock, ownership and control of Good Pillow LLC” effective immediately.

“The reasons for my departure lie entirely with me and my own personal obligations and I really wish (co-founder William LeGate) nothing but the best,” he wrote.

“Over the next few months, I will take some time to focus on my college studies and advance the gun violence prevention movement with March For Our Lives and personally.”

Hogg – who was a Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student during the 2018 massacre – said in early February that he was working with LeGate, a tech entrepreneur, on a rival pillow firm.

He claimed that the “progressive competition” could bankrupt Lindell, who puts proprietary foam pads on infomercials.

The so-called pillow fight was greeted with ambivalence by Lindell himself, who had responded to Axios that there is “nothing wrong with competition that doesn’t infringe someone’s patent.”

About a week later, Hogg announced that he would be taking a leave of absence from his position as a board member for March For Our Lives.

In his tweets Saturday, the Harvard University student said he realized he couldn’t spend “100%” on his pillow business because of other commitments, including school, family and his activism.

“The reasons for my departure lie entirely with me and my own personal obligations and I really wish Will nothing but the best,” he wrote.

He said he would leave it to LeGate to fulfill their vision of “building an ethical company that produces products that people need, while at the same time creating high-paying jobs while supporting social causes.”
