The record comes now that India is dealing with a spate of coronavirus infections in the country. The New York Times reported that India, which enforced a strict lockdown last year when the virus took off, is now becoming a global hotspot.
Several states in the South Asian country are imposing new lockdowns to deal with the wave. Maharashtra, which has the highest number of cases, has ordered a weekend lockout that will end Monday, Reuters reported.
