New ‘Resident Evil Village’ art reveals game map, new character

IGN has provided new art Resident Evil Village to wrap up your Friday, including the first art for a character who plays a big part in the game (and no, it’s not Lady Dimitrescu anymore).

To begin with, the map of the village where the game takes place has been revealed, showing four key locations: Castle Dimitrescu (here is the exclusive Maiden demo for PS5), Moreau’s Reservoir Heisenberg’s factory (No Breaking Bad jokes), and House Beneviento

According to director Morimasa Sato, Village actually shares similarities with Resident Evil 4 (which also started in a rural village) in terms of the variety of gameplay and enemies. “When you hear the word ‘village’ you might picture quaint houses lining a street, but that’s not really enough to make it into a video game,” explains Sato. “Especially in a horror game I find it important to gradually offer new experiences. Within the village it is important to keep providing the player with new surprises. “

The other big news (and in another RE4 likeness) is Mother Miranda, who is adored by the villagers in Village (not unlike Los Iluminados and Sadler in RE4Not much is known about Mother Miranda, except for the images revealed so far of villagers reciting her name and Lady Dimitrescu talking to her on the phone.

Fortunately, Capcom has unveiled a portrait of the mysterious woman, which appears as a kind of religious iconography. Sato explains that she was called “mother” in the religious sense of the word, but would not say much more about what else that might mean.

“For mother Miranda I think it is better for the players to discover it for themselves by playing the game”, says Sato. “But I’ll say this: Mother Miranda and the inside of her character are extremely important factors at play.”

Another image shows Ethan and Chris Redfield (with Ethan’s baby) in front of mother Miranda wearing a mask that resembles a crow, which art director Tomonori Takano explains was intentionally the main motif for Mother Miranda’s design . “The mask resembles a crow’s beak,” says Takano. “As a symbol of horror, crows are the theme for it Village also in their entirety, and they appear in the actual game. Since she has a symbolic role within the village, we implemented the same design theme for Mother Miranda. “

Obviously, Capcom is hesitant to reveal too much more, but they might be waiting for the second too Resident Evil Showcase next week.

Resident Evil Village arrives on Google Stadia, PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series on May 7th, next Resident Evil RE: Verse
