St. PETERSBURG, Florida – Austin Meadows and Randy Arozarena homered against Domingo Germán when the Tampa Bay Rays extended their dominance over the New York Yankees, beating them 4-0 on Saturday.
The Rays have won 10 of 12 regular season games against the Yankees, their division rivals, since the start of the 2020 season.
Tampa Bay also eliminated New York last postseason, in its maximum of five games in the Division Series.
Six Tampa Bay pitchers combined to limit the Yankees to five hits.
Meadows started the count with a solo homerun in the first inning, his third of the season.
Arozarena, a key rookie in the campaign who led the Rays to the World Series last year, hit a 120-foot solo-homerun in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead.
Andrew Kittredge (2-0) worked 1 2/3 innings to win. Rays-starter Chris Archer left the game with a tense right forearm after 2 1/3 innings in which he gave up three hits and struckout four.
For the Yankees, Venezuelan Gleyber Torres is 4-0. Dominican Gary Sánchez 3-1. Colombian Gio Urshela 3-0.
For the Rays, the Cubans Arozarena 5-3 with one scored and one produced, Yandy Díaz 3-0. The Dominicans Willy Adames 3-1 with a run scored, Francisco Mejía 4-1 with two RBI’s.
