Updating: Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp all seem to be working again, but this is the second time that the popular social media and messenger services have stopped working in a month.
Can’t access your Facebook feed today? Instagram photos not loading? Whatsapp messages wouldn’t get through? You weren’t alone. All apps owned by Facebook were offline today for potentially billions of users. According to our tests and the complaints of others – mostly via Twitter – we had an outage for about 20 minutes.
⚠️ Anyone else? Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp no longer work, I’ll keep tweeting about restocks from here while Twitter stays active. But I plan to have a Q&A on Instagram Stories tonight (so many questions). https://t.co/GPPm6DUZStApril 8, 2021
“We’re sorry, something went wrong. Please try again,” the Instagram app said whenever we tried to open any part of the app. We can now refresh our feed of photos and videos, nor were we able to send messages.
WhatsApp was similar, with a ‘Connect’ and round icon at the top, and we saw similar issues in the Facebook Messenger app. Messages did not go to our contacts for about half an hour. Ultimately, WhatsApp messages got through, but the app is still struggling to connect.
Facebook hasn’t commented on the issues yet, but there have been similar issues in the past causing all of these services to be interrupted at the same time.
TechRadar has asked Facebook for a comment on what’s happening, but we’ve yet to hear. However, without officially commenting on Facebook, we have received no confirmation as to why its services have been down or how many of its billions of users have been affected.
We’ll continue to monitor Facebook’s four services – which no longer seem to work – in case your posts stop working again.
