Phillies take over rubber play from Mets

PHILADELPHIA – So many people expected JT Realmuto to get a record-breaking contract from the Mets off-season.

New York signed James McCann instead.

The Phillies eventually signed Realmuto to a $ 115.5 million five-year deal, making him the highest-paid catcher in baseball history. It could be a fun storyline in seasons to come as the Phillies and Mets compete in the National League East. Imagine, for example, that Realmuto beats the Mets like Chase Utley did.

Realmuto made its presence felt in the Phillies’ 8-2 win over the Mets at Citizens Bank Park. Philadelphia won the three-game series to start the season 5-1. Realmuto walked and scored on Alec Bohm’s three-run homerun in the first inning and hit a three-run homerun to the right in the fifth inning. Rhys Hoskins also homered in the game as the Phillies offense had their best game after a quiet start.

Phillies righthanded Aaron Nola struggled through four innings, although he gave up only one run. In 92 pitches, he gave up six hits and walked two.
