The great brightness of Mexico’s sun, Luis Miguel, in turn, has shown the great darkness that surrounds him. That is why the writers Javier León Herrera and Juan Manuel Navarro wrote “Oro de Rey”, an updated biography in which they place the person behind the myth in context through the singer’s ‘mistakes’ and ‘successes’.
“Everyone in life has mistakes and successes and he knows his mistakes and now we discover them. (The book) is a balance between his successes and his mistakes and how they made it move forward, come back up and remain a global success, ”Juan Manuel Navarro, the Mexican author of the book, told EFE on Tuesday.
“The germ” of the book – as the Spanish journalist (Javier León Herrera) calls the first impulse they had to write on the subject – was born 25 years ago with the research he did for the first book “Luis mi Rey”, in which were based, with the permission of the singer himself, on the writers of “Luis Miguel, the series” from Netflix.
This first book told the shocking story of Luis Miguel (San Juan, Puerto Rico, 1970), his conflict-ridden family, the imposing personality of his father and his mistreatment of him, his first steps in music, his rise in music. and one of his greatest concerns: his mother’s disappearance.
“One of the things we’ve done is reveal what the soul is like behind that star and that myth. When you see that, you understand a lot of things … There is a being full of light and a good person behind him and he is the one we all want to see, ”Javier emphasizes.
“Oro de Rey” puts an end to his mother’s subject and tells the second part of his story after his father’s death, King Luisito. A stage full of musical successes, romances with artists such as Mariah Carey and great betrayal.
For the Spanish journalist, the “resilience” the singer has developed to “move on” is unbelievable after the difficult times he has endured.
Luis Miguel “has had one betrayal after another and some very painful, which led to the crisis of 2015, but some friends made a rescue plan for him and he resurfaced with the overwhelming success of the series and the tours”, Javier says.
UNPUBLISHED, SECRET AND ANONYMOUS INTERVIEWS
The book came about thanks to the earlier research that both journalists had conducted, as well as the series of interviews that were both conducted with personalities very close to “Suave’s” interpreter, who largely decided to remain anonymous.
Some thought he would get angry if they gave us an interview. Others trusted, because if the first book was approved by him, it already gave credibility to our work. Now that they had confidence in the work we had done, most of them accepted it, ”said Juan, who has had the opportunity to interview the Sun Four times.
“Many have told us, ‘I’m going to tell you this because we’re looking for the good of Luis Miguel, but we don’t want our name to appear in any way,” adds Javier.
“Oro de Rey” is also a celebration of the singer’s “golden wedding” with life, who turned 50 in April 2020, and that the book had to wait until 2021 to come out due to the pandemic, selling those on 20 April starts under the Aguilar label of the publishing house Penguin Random House.
The prologue was written by Emilio Estefan and it also has a chapter dedicated to the fans of the singer, as the writers recognize her important role in the career of the artist.
Javier and Juan Manuel intend to continue writing about what they consider undoubtedly the “greatest interpreter Mexico has had”.
“What we would like is for him, as he says, to turn 70 with his glass of whiskey the way Frank Sinatra sings. Hopefully the platinum weddings will come, in 60 years or more, that would be great,” concludes Javier.
