Rays-outfielder Randy Arozarena stole an extra base from Hunter Renfroe in Fenway Park on Monday-evening with a spectacular catch, saving a run with his effort.
With no outs in the fourth inning, with men in second and third place and the Rays trailing 1-0 in the first of the series against the Red Sox, Renfroe hit a ball between center and right that went at a speed of 101 mph came off his bat. What appeared to be a safe double, or maybe a triple, ended up being a sacrifice fly, with Puerto Rican Christian Vázquez scoring to the ground and running from third place… all thanks to Arozarena’s incredible play.
Arozarena’s catch in the air not only required the right fielder to fully stretch, but also bend his body back to catch the ball. During the Red Sox airing, they wondered if we would see such a good game for the rest of the season, and while this may not be the best catch of 2021 once the season is over, there’s no question that that is the case. . was the best.
