The US administered a record 4 million vaccinations against COVID-19 in a 24-hour period ending Saturday, officials announced.
The milestone was celebrated in a tweet by White House COVID-19 Data Director Dr. Cyrus Shahpar. He also noted that it was the first week in which the US received an average of more than 3 million vaccinations per day. “Millions are coming together to accelerate our progress in managing the pandemic!” he raved.
With increasing vaccination coverage, if Americans continue to follow health guidelines, “we’ll get where [people] want to be, where I want to be, where you want to be – where we have enough people who are protected with the vaccines so we can go and see the cherry blossoms, ”said Dr. Anthony Fauci, infectious disease expert, Saturday on CNN. ‘It is going to happen. It will.”
“Every day you get 4 million, 3 million people vaccinated, you get closer and closer to control. Hang around there a little longer, and the … vaccinations in this country will wipe out the increase in the virus. There is no doubt that the vaccine will win. You will increasingly see the benefits of getting vaccinated, ”said Fauci, President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser.
The US has given 104 million people vaccines, of which more than 59 million have been fully vaccinated.
