Last night, at the request of the High Police Council, the executive branch retired 350 officers from the National Police (PN) because of their age and seniority.
The retreats included 62 colonels, the same number of lieutenant colonels, 51 with the rank of majors, 79 captains, 72 with the rank of first lieutenant, and 18 second lieutenant.
Retired colonels include Onil Abreu Tabar, Francisco Aquino Eugenio, Guillermo Báez Ubiera, Pedro José Castro Castillo, Marcelo Castro Ulloa and Pablo Cordero.
Colonels Carlos Antonio Cruz Guzmán, Juan Feliz Novas, Manuel Fernández Taveras, Félix Franklin Figueroa, Leonardo Garcia Álvarez, Félix Gómez Geraldino and Ramón González were also removed.
Colonels Ramón Hernández, José Arismendy Liberes, José Ramón Martínez Polanco, Cándido Mateo Uribe, Teodoro Miguel Matos Díaz, Francisco Morrobel Villamán, Fernando Ogando de Oleo and Víctor Manuel, among others, retired because of their seniority. Pimentel Mojica and Sixto Ramírez de la Cruz.
Also retired were Bienvenido Viola, Elido Alfredo Rodríguez García, Julio Justino Rodríguez, Miguel Sánchez Cornielle, Nelson Yhovanny Sánchez, Manuel Santamaría Fondeur, Ricardo Scharbay Vásquez, Victoriano Tejada Báez, Domingo Vargas Almánzar, Domingo Vargas Almánzar, Victoriano Tejingo, and Victoriano Tejingo.
Also retired were Juan Antonio Bello Almonte, Aquilino Jiménez Gómez, Amelio de Jesús Pichardo, Roquerme Soriano García, Rosalio Abad Encarnacion, Diógenes Alcantara Oviedo, Ramón Crisóstomo, Saturnino de León de la Cruz and Ernesto Feliz Alcántara, among others.
Retired Lieutenant Colonels include Juan Francisco Acevedo, Dionicio Agu¨ero, Carlos Ercilio Aquino, Angel Salvador Mateo and Lucas Carela.

The withdrawals are carried out when large sections of the population demand a thorough reform and purge of the National Police, following the shot and death of a Christian couple, who are mistaken by the police for criminals.

At a press conference at the National Palace last Wednesday, President Luis Abinader warned that he will not tolerate anyone being above the law and guaranteed that he has an inalienable commitment to comprehensive police reform that will stop events such as the shepherds’ crime.
