Two days of mourning in Santo Domingo Norte over the deaths of evangelical husbands

The Chapter House of the Santo Domingo Norte City Council passed resolution 23-21 declaring tomorrow, Monday, April 5, and Tuesday, April 6, as days of municipal mourning for the deaths of the pair of young preachers at the hands of National Police officers in Villa Altagracia, Elisa Muñoz and Joel Díaz, who lived in the Cuesta Linda sector of Sabana Perdida.

The measure was passed at an extraordinary session held virtually last Friday, and received the favorable vote of the 17 councilors who make up the town hall chapter house of that demarcation.

A committee of councilors was appointed to visit the families of the young people and the regional director of the National Police, José Santana Morillo, was asked to place the flag on the half staff in all branches of the municipality, as will happen in the dependencies of the local government, as an example of the fulfillment of the resolution declaring two days of municipal mourning.

On behalf of the Council of Aldermen, its chairman Desiderio Muñoz condemned the young couple’s death, which he emphasized was committed to carrying the word of God in the congregation and abroad, and that they sadly died by the hands of the policeman.

Carlos Guzmán argued for a sophisticated National Police and asked that those chosen to enter the institutions receive continuous education, as not everyone is trained to manage, and less so to carry a weapon.

The shepherds’ deaths occurred on Tuesday night as they returned from a vigil in a community in Villa Altagracia and were intercepted by a police patrol who shot without a word at the vehicle they were traveling with.
