In the Sermon of the 7 Words, the pastors lament abortion, administrative corruption, lack of opportunities for young people, injustice and social inequality.
The first word “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing”, was read by Father Pelagio Antonio Tavéras, who said that the human body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and becomes a grave through the abortion.
They keep asking for forgiveness for what they want to ignore and want to remove God from the center of life “and we live in a society that wants to push God out of the center of the universe and put their interests and beliefs before God.”
They ask for forgiveness if more attention is given to the life of an animal than to human life, because there are those that they don’t appreciate human life and that’s why there are so many unnecessary deaths like abortion.
He said the Lord has a greater tolerance towards the ignorant than those who do know what they are doing, and the latter are the ones who perpetuate the chaos in the transportation system, the ones who keep the people crucified with their attachment to money.“We live in a country with a lot of wealth, but with poor people.”
“They know what they are doing,” said Father Pelagio over and over, referring to those who give up natural wealth with forged contracts and the people cannot enjoy that wealth that belongs to them. To those who destroy natural resources like Loma Miranda.
Bad services
He said they know what they are doing when they provide poor quality services in hospitals, schools and transportation, when the people deserve dignity; when they bureaucratize procedures for citizens to do paperwork.
