Amber Alert: 8-month-old Braiden Waters found safe after being kidnapped from Dolton

DOLTON, Ill. (WLS) – An 8 month old baby was found in good condition after an Amber Alert on Saturday morning.

Dolton police say the boy was in a car seat in the back of a vehicle in Block 1300 of Sibley Blvd at around 7:35 a.m. when it was believed he had been abducted by an unknown man.

The child’s father went in to grab food and had his rental car run and unlocked with the boy in the back seat, when someone jumped in and took off, said Dolton police chief Ernest Mobley.

The child was in a black 2021 Kia K5 with North Carolina license plate HKB6993 and was last seen north on Lincoln Avenue.

After about 15 minutes of issuing the Amber Alert, the car with the baby in it was found in Green Bay’s 500 block in Calumet City, Mobley said.

The baby is now with relatives being monitored at St. Margaret Hospital, Mobley said.

“We are pleased that this turned out to be good and that the child was not harmed,” said Mobley.

The incident appeared to be random, but the suspect or suspects have not yet been found.

Officials are urging residents to look at their home security footage to see if they can see the vehicle or persons running out of the car.

Dolton Village Trustee Tiffany Henyard thanks all of the residents who came forward when the Amber Alert left, but she also urged parents to keep their children with them at all times.

“I want people to heed this and take this as a warning, and don’t let this be your lesson,” Henyard said. “It’s a matter of seconds, this can happen to anyone.”
