SEASON – Yankees send pitcher Deivi Garcia to their AAA affiliate

Everything seems to indicate that Dominican Domingo Germán has won the battle for the fifth starter for the Yankees, as the team announced that it was sending Deivi García to Triple-A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Germán, 28, looked sharper than manager Aaron Boone and New York’s coaching staff expected after the righthanded lost a season while serving a suspension under Major League Baseball’s domestic violence policy. Germán threw nine scoreless innings in three Grapefruit League-starts, batted 13 batters and walked only one.

Garcia, considered the Yankees’ No. 3 prospect by MLB Pipeline, had a 3.86 ERA in five Grapefruit League appearances. The 21-year old righthanded gave up 12 basehits and walked eight batters, while striking out 14 batters in 14.0 innings.

In addition to his solo homer, the short stop singled three times. Manuel Margot went 2-0 and Wander Franco 1-0.

For the Red Sox, Cesar Puello, looking in vain for a spot, went 4-0 and his average dropped to .205.

CLEVELAND 5

COLORADO 4

José Ramírez hit his first homerun in the Cactus League in the game that the Cleveland Indians defeated the Colorado Rockies 5-4.

Ramírez hit his solo homer in two at-bats. Franmil Reyes was 3-for-1 and Amed Rosario, again in centerfielder, also hit one in three chances.

GIANTS 5

PUPPY 4

Joc Pederson hit his sixth and seventh preseason homers, but couldn’t stop the San Francisco Giants from beating the Chicago Cubs five to four.

In total, the outfielder who was taken over from the Los Angeles Dodgers this winter was 4-2 with four RBI’s.

Dominican reliever Pedro Strop struckout two batters in one inning.

For the Giants, fellow closers Wandy Peralta and Jarlin García effectively pitched. Peralta gave up one basehit and struckout one 1/3 innings, while lefthanded Garcia retired both in a row.
