(CNN) – Colombia approved emergency use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine against covid-19 on Thursday, according to a statement from the National Institute for Food and Drug Surveillance (Invima).
“The Ad26.COV2.S vaccine has been subject to clinical trials in Colombia, with the participation of more than 5,800 volunteers in various settings in the country,” the statement said.
According to Invima, this is the third covid-19 vaccine to be authorized for emergency use in the country.

Last Thursday, the Colombian government reported 2,359,942 cases of covid-19 and 62,519 deaths related to the virus.
