They shot Vargas Vidot “in the name of God” for the conversion therapy project

On the same day that public hearings begin on Senate Law 184, which seeks to ban conversion therapies, one of the authors confessed to using Capitol security to leave the building because of threats he has received “in the name of God.”

In an interview with WIAC-740, independent senator José Vargas Vidot said that “cars have stopped to scream insults at me, I have received threats”.

“I have to get from the Senate building, that is, from the Capitol, to my car with escorts because they stopped to throw me in the name of God,” he said in the interview.

Vargas Vidot assures that many have used this project to instill fear and suspicion, and that it is not trying to impose a way to raise parents with their children.

Public hearings on this project start today and some of the delegates mentioned are the College of Social Workers, the Puerto Rico Psychology Association, the Broad committee for the pursuit of equality, the American Civil Liberties Union like International amnesty

Similarly, it has been reported that Pastor René Pereira and Priest Carlos Pérez will be present.

The legislative measure proposed by the senators Jose Vargas Vidot Rafael Bernabe and the senators Ana Irma Rivera Lassén Y Mary of Lourdes Santiago, proposes to amend several articles of the Puerto Rico Mental Health Act, as well as the Safety, Welfare and Protection of Minors Act. Senate spokesman Javier Aponte Dalmau emerges as co-author of the play and Governor Pedro Pierluisi he has stated that he is opposed to conversion therapies.
