“It was such an easy process,” said Joan Kirkpatrick. “It changes a lot because I now feel that I am now safe in the community. I am more happy to be part of this process of eliminating this virus so that we can go back to our normal lives.”

At the state’s COVID-19 briefing on Tuesday, Dr. Mandy Cohen, secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, noted that nearly a third (31.7%) of adults had at least one dose of received the vaccination and 18.8% that fully vaccinated.

“I urge everyone to get it,” said John Rivera, who was recently vaccinated. “I am not surprised that in this great country it is possible to roll out a vaccine so quickly to fight a pandemic like this.”

“Our vaccine equality efforts remain a priority, along with speed,” Gov. Roy Cooper said in a tweet. “We will continue to vaccinate people in a way that is fast and fair.”

The number of new COVID-19 cases in the state has declined, rather than declining as it had been in recent weeks. Cohen did say that the state was “in a positive place.”

“Every shot in the arm brings us closer to turning the corner of this pandemic,” Cooper said.

The state says any adult in North Carolina who wants a coronavirus vaccination can get one by May 1. Last week, CFVH passed the 100,000 dose milestone.
