Abinader: From June 1, motorcyclists will have to wear vests with an identity number

As of June 1, all motorcyclists in the country will be identified with vests with an individual number, as part of the measures announced by President Luis Abinader, they will be applied within the Comprehensive Strategy for Citizen Security.

“From June 1, we will start identifying all drivers wearing vests with an individual number. With this, we want to reduce the number of people using motorcycles without a license and the criminal activities associated with their use in many cases.“, He explained.

He also referred to two major technological leaps that will take place in the country within that plan, such as the launch of a platform that enables direct and real-time interaction between citizens and police.

“Any Dominican can file a complaint from their mobile phone, with an app or application, with videos, photos and texts from where the events are taking place, and follow up on their case,” he said.

While the second step in crime fighting technology will be the launch of a modern police crime laboratory with the capacity to collect and analyze DNA samples, ballistics, fingerprints and other branches of criminology.

“Both the technology platform and the crime lab are already in the process of submitting proposals to select the most appropriate as soon as the evaluation and procurement processes allow.”

We are moving from a fully analogue police force to a much more efficient digital police force, this will enable us to collect, analyze and make operational decisions based on reliable data processed in real time, which is also a transformation of the current Citizen Security Observatory implies towards a new and renovated center for the analysis of citizen security.
