Amazon electric vans are starting to circulate in San Francisco

The new all-electric vans from Amazon, manufactured by the startup Rivian, began delivering packages to the area this Thursday San Francisco Bay (California, USA), the second city in which they will be operational.

“This is the second of the 16 cities where we will have the vans in circulation this year,” the company said in its Twitter account, after in February these electric vehicles started to drop in The Angels

The company led by Jeff Bezos unveiled the vans last October and announced that it plans to deploy 10,000 for deliveries by 2022 and have 100,000 in circulation by 2030.

Amazon has the commitment to electric vans in its climate commitment to be a carbon footprint-free company by 2040, explaining that it considers them “the future of last mile deliverythat is, the portion that goes from the supply center to the customer’s home.

Outdoor cameras

The electric vans have exterior cameras to provide the driver with a 360-degree view of the exterior of the vehicle and the integration of the Alexa virtual assistant to access traffic and weather information.

In 2019 Bezos announced the internet sales giant’s commitment to 100% of renewable energy in its global infrastructure by 2030, as well as the purchase of 100,000 electric vehicles.

According to company data, 40% of the consumed energy for its installations it comes from renewable sources, and the target is to go to 80% by 2024 and 100% by 2030.

One of the suggested actions, explained Bezos, is to increase the speed of services.
