San Mateo County is changing the way it manages its COVID-19 vaccine sites and is starting to think smaller and more locally.
People living in and around Daly City lined up at the Chinese Hospital Outpatient Center on Thursday, one of about five smaller vaccination centers set up in San Mateo County this week.
Those massive vaccination sites will no longer be a focus for county health leaders, instead hoping smaller sites are even suitable for walk-ups.
“The bus from Daly City to San Mateo might take 45-50 minutes,” said supervisor David Canepa. “You just walk in here.”
So far, the county says the smaller sites are getting a good response from people using them and they plan to open a few more next week.
“A lot of people are trying to get the vaccine now, and when I tried to book an appointment online, it failed, so when I heard there was a chance to contract and I had a day off, rain or shine, I’m going to take it, ”said Lara Pecchi from San Bruno.
