Abinader appoints Eddy Alcántara, reformist leader, in Proconsumidor

Santo Domingo, RD.

President Luis Abinader appointed Christian Social Reform Party (PRSC) leader and attorney, Eddy Alcántara Castillo, as head of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Proconsumidor).

Decree 176-21, with a single article, establishes that in resolution 01-2021 of the Board of Directors of Proconsumidor, the term consisting of Sandino Báez Bisonó, Ana Vertilia Cabrera and Eddy Alcántara was set for the appointment of executive director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights, March 17, 2021.

On December 30, Anina Del Castillo, who has been executive director of Proconsumidor since January 2016, announced that she was stepping down.

Since then, that institution no longer had a representative.

Del Castillo assured that his resignation was due to a “personal decision taken after weighing up several factors that have marked the year 2020”.
