Lilo Vilaplana on the filtration of the film Plantados: “It was terrible”

The Cuban filmmaker Lilo Vilaplana regretted that his most recent feature, Planted, was found illegally accessible on the YouTube platform: “It was terrible, a great commercial damage.”

Planted, the film that deals with the realities of political prisoners during more than 60 years of the Castro dictatorship, officially premiered in the city of Miami last Friday, but the clandestine version of the film is circulating on some websites.

‘We don’t know what happened, how it got leaked. We still don’t know what happened. It has been awful. Links are reported and others come in. I don’t know why YouTube hasn’t taken any action yet, as the complaint has been filed. It is an illegal act. It’s like going to a shoe store, picking up a pair of shoes and running away, ”Vilaplana complained in the magazine. The mornings of CiberCuba

On the reception of the public and the reaction of many to the episode of piracy under the production, Vilaplana added:

“But what I’ve seen is that a lot of good people around the world have expressed an interest in seeing the movie in theaters, even after seeing it on YouTube. They approached me and said, “I want to donate 150 tickets to the public.”

Likewise, the director took advantage of the space provided by journalist Tania Costa to encourage the public to visit the cinemas, reporting that part of the income obtained will be for political prisoners suffering from the dictatorship in Cuba.

“If it is a plan to end the film commercially, I am calling on the same audience that voted at the Miami Film Festival to give us the popularity award, so that they also go to the cinema to see the film. That they support us. Suddenly, whoever did it (the illegal publication on YouTube) was in an act of patriotism, but it caused great damage ”.

“I hope those who have seen the illegal movie go to the cinema, buy a ticket and say, ‘here is my contribution to the cinema. “32 percent of the profits that are raised go to political prisoners in Cuba and their families, who are black in that dictatorship,” he explained.

The film Plantados won the Audience Award at the 38th Miami Film Festival last Tuesday.
