Happy Pi Day, fellow geeks! The annual celebration of the mathematical constant π or pi, also known as the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter (and here I thought I’d never get a chance to use 9th degree geometry in real life!) . It falls on March 14th because pi is numerically spelled out 3.14 … and then goes on forever because irrational numbers just roll that way.
In view of this pseudo-holiday, Google hid a nerdy little Easter egg in Chrome’s calculator. Look for to pull it up ‘Pi’, ‘pi day’ or just ‘calculator’ in Google. You should see some stars twinkling around a pi symbol in the top left corner. Clicking on it triggers a sort of ‘Simon Says’ game, except with the digits of pi: the calculator will briefly show you the first three digits of pi, and if you manage to enter all numbers correctly then it does the same for the first four digits of pi, then the first five numbers, and so on, and so on. We played with it a bit, which you can see in the gif below.
The calculator even records your “high score” which I think is pretty cute and won’t lie. Reminds me of the old CoolMath4Kids days.

Presumably Google’s pi calculator game would go on indefinitely like pi itself, but we have yet to test that theory. Feel free to check it out for yourself and let us know what you discover in the comments.
