Switch is now Nintendo’s second best-selling system in the US, in “Tracked History”

The last NPD data has revealed that “total dollar sales” of Switch hardware in the US has now surpassed Nintendo DS.

This apparently makes the system the second “best-selling” Nintendo platform “in recorded history” in the country. Wii still comes first. Overall, this would make Nintendo’s latest hybrid system the seventh best-selling video game hardware in the US (no figures were provided).

“Total dollar sales of Switch hardware now surpass Nintendo DS, making Switch the second best-selling platform in US history (Nintendo Wii ranks first). Switch is currently the seventh best-selling hardware platform in lifetime sales. in US dollars. “

Nintendo’s hardware has been equally successful in the past month. NPD’s Mat Piscatella noted that it was also the “best-selling” system of February 2021 (again, no figures were included).

It has also had the best hardware sales of any platform in the month of February since the Nintendo Wii in 2009:

“Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware platform in both units and dollars in February. Unit and dollar sales of Nintendo Switch hardware in February were the highest for any hardware platform in a month of February since the Nintendo Wii in February 2009.”

In terms of software, Nintendo has performed just as well – with NPD data revealing the initial release Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury was the best-selling game last month. This enhanced Wii U re-release is also the second best-selling game of 2021 so far, right behind the latest version in the Duty series.
